The old ABC Cinema foyer on Streatham High Road
When this old cinema was converted in to flats the facade was left intact along with the foyer which was intended to be rented out as a restaurant space. For a long time there was a sign outside advertising the 3000 Sq ft space for rent, although it has never been used in all this time. I'm told that the foyer has been left very much as it would have been in its heyday, with a grand double staircase leading up to the first floor.
This would be a perfect venue for a group like Antic to take over and turn in to a pub/restaurant. Antic have a great track record of taking old buildings and breathing new life in to them whilst retaining their original character. Examples include The Tooting Tram & Social and The Balham Bowls Club amongst others. For more examples of Antic pubs check there website http://www.antic-ltd.com/
Streatham Hill is in desperate need of a quality pub along those lines that I'd be stunned if it wasn't an instant success.

Streatham old ABC cinema
Streatham was one of South London's hot spots at the turn of the century up to the 1960's with people wanting to come see and be seen either at the theatre, clubs, ice-rink, commons or one of the 3 cinemas that had stood along the High Street. Most of the cinema buildings were art deco and the Odeon cinema down the road was a splendid example, unfortunately the facade and internal decoration has gone leaving the ABC foyer the only remaining image of a past time. This is defiantly a must for people to save, use and appreciate the building that South London and Streatham has only just still got. I would love to curate an art show in this building for South London's budding contemporary artists from places like Wimbledon Art Collage to Camberwell and including local and international artists all showing in a build which is nostalgic and familiar to so many. This building is primed with history of film, stories and culture which should link to its neighbours and create a closer bond with them making it easier for people to want to go out and see things around South London.
Streatham Old Cinema
I am not sure is if something is occurring there. The paper which was on the windows has been removed so you can now see in. Could this be a sign that someone is moving in? It would be lovely to see it used but also make a great temporary art gallery space if it is just going to remain empty!
